About us

Blue Ridge Heelers is located in Pilot,, Virginia, nestled in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. We love our dogs! They are first and foremost our family pets, sharing our home and stealing our beds! When we got our first heeler we completely fell in love with their strong loyalty and crazy personalities! We enjoy daily walks with our pack across the rolling hills of our 49 acre homestead, with summertime dips in the creek. Our puppies are raised in our home with our constant love and attention. Once puppies are born we stay up watching them 24 hours a day until they are 3-4 weeks old to ensure they have the best start in life! We send out puppy pictures at least once a week so you can watch as they change and grow. We have found it really helps people feel connected to their puppy.
We do not send puppies home before 8 weeks. It is important for puppies to stay with their mother for at least the first eight weeks of their lives because this period is crucial for their physical, emotional, and social development. During this time, they receive essential nutrition from their mother's milk, which provides antibodies that bolster their immune system. Additionally, early interactions with their mother and littermates help puppies develop valuable social skills, learn bite inhibition, and adapt to their environment. This foundational period contributes significantly to their overall behavior, temperament, and ability to interact with humans and other animals later in life.
We start early with socializing our puppies to new sounds, textures and noises so that they are well equipped for family life after they leave our home. We also believe in health testing our dogs for breed specific issues such as Collie Eye Anomaly, Progressive Retinal Atrophy, Rod-Cone Dysplasia Multidrug Resistance, Neutropenia, Degenerative Myelopathy, Dermatomyositis and PennHip for our Australian Cattle Dogs.
